HANCEVILLE - Students at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville were recognized for their achievements at the college’s recent Awards Night Ceremony.  Awards for campus leadership, scholastic achievement, transfer scholarships and division honors were among those presented.

“We celebrate the achievements of all of our students, and this year is especially wonderful because this is our 50th Anniversary – 50 years of excellence at Wallace State,” said Wallace State President Dr. Vicki Hawsey Karolewics.  “I want to congratulate each and every one of you. You have shown character, drive, perseverance and commitment to excellence. You are the most important reason for our existence.”

The night’s top honor, the President’s Cup, went to Sarah Ellen Battles of Hartselle. This award is presented to the student who most completely demonstrates academic excellence, service to the college and community, leadership, courage, perseverance and all those qualities that make a student well-rounded.

Battles has played softball for two seasons at Wallace State and played for the volleyball team as a freshman. She is an outstanding student, in both Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Kappa Delta honor societies, and maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her career at Wallace State. A second baseman, she hit two homeruns and made the All-Tournament Softball team at the Conference Championship. She has been a leader on the court, on the field and in the classroom.  She will be transferring to Auburn on scholarship this fall.

For a list of other Awards Night honorees, see photograph captions below. (NOTE:  These photos represent only those students at the Awards Night Ceremony.  This list does not include students who received awards and scholarships but were unable to attend nor those who were subsequently notified of their awards.)
